About Karen


Thornhill Meditation(meditation for mindful living) was founded in 2007 and is operated by Karen Kofman. It is located in Thornhill, Ontario. Karen offers private meditation lessons and Yin Yoga classes which are infused with mindfulness instruction. She assists her students to bring the mind and body to a peaceful space and how to apply mindfulness to everyday life. 

Karen has studied the Jon Kabat-Zinn mindful method of meditation and has been certified in Meditation instruction (samatha and vipassana) by Bangkok Natural Healing Academy.   In 2016 and 2017 she studied with master teachers in Thailand, and will be returning in March 2018 for further teachings.  Karen’s philosophy is to make meditation and mindfulness a way of life, taken beyond one’s daily meditation sitting practice.

Karen teaches meditation privately and teaches a four part course several times a year. 

Karen also teaches regular yin yoga classes which are infused with mindfulness training.  

In January, 2013 Karen achieved certification in Hot Yoga through Bheda Yoga Studio in Markham.  In November, 2014, Karen became certified in Yin Yoga as a student of Tracy Soghrati. Karen has continued her yoga teacher training (fall 2015) under the guidance of Galina Silberberg of Yin Yang Yoga Loft.

Weekly Yin Yoga classes are offered at Karen's home studio in Thornhill.  These classes are infused with meditation and mindfulness in order for the student to bring awareness to each posture and gain skills to become more calm and relaxed in both mind and body.  

Karen has taught in corporate and educational setting. As well she offers workshops to non-profit organizations.
